One of the most practical questions in crystal jewellery is also one of the least discussed: does it matter whether you wear a crystal as a bracelet or a necklace?

From a purely aesthetic standpoint, no. Both are beautiful ways to carry crystal energy with you. But from an energetic perspective, placement matters — and understanding why can help you get more from the crystals you already own.

The Wrist: A Direct Channel to the Body's Energy

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the wrists are home to several of the body's most important meridian points — energy channels that connect to virtually every organ system. The radial pulse point (where a doctor checks your pulse) sits on the Lung meridian; nearby points connect to the Heart, Pericardium, and Triple Burner meridians.

This proximity to major meridian points is why bracelets are considered particularly effective for crystals whose benefits you want to feel throughout the body — protection, emotional balance, and physical wellbeing.

Left wrist: Traditionally considered the "receiving" side. Wearing crystals on the left wrist draws their energy inward — toward your internal world, emotions, and spiritual state. Best for: rose quartz (self-love), amethyst (inner calm), moonstone (intuition).

Right wrist: The "projecting" side — energy flows outward. Wearing crystals here amplifies what you transmit into the world. Best for: citrine (projecting abundance), tiger's eye (confidence), carnelian (motivation and action).

The Neck: Direct Access to the Heart and Throat

A necklace resting at mid-chest level sits near the heart chakra — the centre of love, compassion, and emotional intelligence. Longer necklaces that fall to the solar plexus connect to personal power and confidence. Choker-length pieces sit near the throat chakra, supporting communication.

Necklaces are particularly effective for crystals whose energy you want working continuously on your upper body — mind, heart, speech, and intuition.

Best crystals for necklaces: Amethyst (crown/third eye), labradorite (intuition), aquamarine (communication), rose quartz (heart healing), clear quartz (amplification of intent).

So Which Should You Choose?

Use a bracelet when: - You want consistent, whole-body energetic support throughout the day - You are working on something specific (protection, productivity, emotional regulation) - You want to be intentional about left (receiving) vs. right (projecting) placement

Use a necklace when: - You want a crystal working closely with your heart, throat, or mind - Aesthetics are the primary consideration (necklaces are more visible) - You prefer a piece that stays put and does not move around
