Feng shui — the ancient Chinese art of arranging your living environment to harmonise with natural energy flows — has been practised for over 3,000 years. Crystals are one of its most powerful tools: each stone type corresponds to a specific element, and strategic placement can activate, balance, or calm specific life areas in your home.
Understanding the Ba Gua Map
The Ba Gua (八卦) is the feng shui energy map — a grid that divides your home (or any room) into nine zones, each corresponding to a specific life area:
- ●North: Career and life path (Water element)
- ●Northeast: Education and self-cultivation (Earth element)
- ●East: Health and family (Wood element)
- ●Southeast: Wealth and abundance (Wood element)
- ●Centre: Health and balance (Earth element)
- ●Southwest: Love and relationships (Earth element)
- ●West: Children and creativity (Metal element)
- ●Northwest: Helpful people and travel (Metal element)
- ●South: Fame and reputation (Fire element)
To use the Ba Gua, stand at your home's front door facing inward and overlay this map onto your floor plan.
Crystal Placements by Life Area
Wealth Corner (Southeast) — Citrine, Pyrite, Green Aventurine
The southeast corner is the most popular focus for wealth feng shui. Place a citrine cluster, piece of pyrite, or green aventurine in this corner to activate abundance energy.
A golden citrine cluster on a wooden shelf in the southeast corner is one of the most classic and effective feng shui crystal arrangements.

Love Corner (Southwest) — Rose Quartz
Place a pair of rose quartz tumble stones, a rose quartz sphere, or rose quartz hearts in the southwest corner of your home to activate relationship energy. The "pair" symbolism is important — single pieces can inadvertently reinforce solitude.
If you are in a relationship, place photos of you and your partner here along with the rose quartz.
Career Area (North) — Black Obsidian, Aquamarine
The north section of your home governs career. Black Obsidian here provides protection from workplace politics and supports the deep, flowing energy of career progression. Aquamarine adds clarity and communication support.
Health Area (East and Centre) — Clear Quartz, Jade
Clear Quartz in the east or centre of your home amplifies vital energy throughout the space. Jade is the traditional Chinese health crystal — a jade plant or jade decorative piece in the east area is a classic feng shui arrangement.
Fame Area (South) — Carnelian, Red Jasper
The south governs how others see you — your reputation, recognition, and public presence. Carnelian or red jasper in this area activates the Fire energy needed for genuine visibility and recognition.
General Crystal Placement Rules
Cleanse before placing. Any crystal you use for feng shui should be thoroughly cleansed before placement — it will be doing ongoing environmental work and needs to start clear.
Front door protection. Place Black Tourmaline on either side of your front door (inside) to prevent negative energy from entering your home.
Bedroom: Keep it gentle. Bedrooms benefit from calming, soft-energy crystals (rose quartz, amethyst, selenite) rather than high-energy stones. Avoid citrine or tiger's eye in the bedroom if you are sensitive.
Avoid clutter. A crystal on a clear, intentional surface is active. A crystal buried under clutter is just a rock.
